10. Infinix Hot 12 Pro

              Leading our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal is the  Infinix Hot 12 Pro. With this, Infinix has tried to deliver the "big" smartphone experience on a budget. It houses a massive 6.6″ display for all your media consumption needs. It is also a smooth screen with 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate.

Having said that, Infinix still hasn't upped the resolution to Full HD here, so expect some pixelation when interacting with this display. Also, while the cheaper Infinix Hot 12 Play gets a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, this guy is still stuck to the traditional notch. Anyway, it also houses a massive 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support via the onboard USB-C connection.

Unisoc chip

For performance, you're getting the Unisoc T616 chip here, which is a slight upgrade over the T610 on the Infinix Hot 12 Play. It boots up on Android 12 with Infinix's custom skin called "XOS 10" on top. Next in our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal is the Redmi 10. Launched in May 2022, the Redmi 10 is somehow different from the Redmi 10 (2022). Just Xiaomi stuff, amirite? Anyway, the phone is also known as "Redmi 10C" in Nigeria (this variant has a smaller 5000mAh battery) and "Redmi 10 Power" in India.

Apart from the rebranding, the Redmi 10 is for those who want a bigger display and a battery that lasts all day. On the case, the phone sports a massive 6.7″ IPS LCD screen, 6000mAh battery, and dual speakers. As a result, you can stream videos on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and other platforms all day long without worrying about battery life.

60Hz HD IPS display

Like the Infinix Hot 12 Play above, Xiaomi has also gone with only HD resolution here, so you may see content pixelation in some cases. And juicing up the phone is equally time consuming as it only supports 18W fast charging. Also, the company ships only a 10W power adapter inside the box. Having said that, 18W is a pretty common charging standard in this price bracket, so it's not really a big deal.

On the performance front, the Redmi 10 is powered by the Snapdragon 680, which is fabricated under an efficient 6nm process node. Although this helps maintain high battery endurance, the 680 isn't as powerful as the other processors on our list. Moving on, the phone sports dual cameras at the back - 50MP main and 2MP depth - and a 5MP selfie shooter.

Well, the eighth position in our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal goes to Samsung Galaxy A04S. This budget phone comes with very modest specifications and can be a good starter smartphone for school level students etc. Powering the Galaxy A04s is Samsung's in-house Exynos 850 processor. Instead of just horsepower, this chip focuses on power-efficiency.

Exynos 850 chip

It is manufactured under the 8nm process node and has only Cortex-A55 cores in its octa-core CPU cluster. All clocked at 2.0 GHz. So the A04s should be good for casual use including light multi-tasking etc. but don't expect much from this phone.

In terms of software, it runs on Samsung's One UI core 4.1 based on Android 12 and should get Android as well as security updates for at least a few years. All this is complemented by 4GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of internal storage. On the display front, the phone sports a 6.5″ PLS LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate and HD resolution. So nothing flashy there either. When it comes to cameras, you'll find three of them on the back – without any camera island. Just like the flagship Galaxy S23 series.

7. Realme Narzo 50A Prime

Taking the 7th spot on our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal is the Realme Narzo 50A Prime. Essentially, it's a Realme C35 in disguise - except it's powered by the slightly slower Unisoc T612 processor instead of the T616. It comes with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. For the software, the Narzo 50A Prime packs Realme UI R edition based on Android 11.

This "R Edition" of Realme UI is pretty simple, which is somewhat understandable for a budget phone. In terms of cameras, you are looking at a triple-lens setup that houses a 50MP primary, 2MP macro and a B&W portrait sensor at the back. Then inside the teardrop notch is the 8MP selfie camera.

The Narzo 50A Prime also impresses with its battery. Here, you get a massive 5000mAh battery, which Realme says can last up to 8.1 hours of continuous gaming or up to 17.2 hours of YouTube streaming. It supports 18W fast charging to fill up the battery quickly but interestingly, Realme hasn't shipped a compatible power brick inside the box this time.

Yes, this is actually the first realme phone to buck the trend of smartphone brands not packing a charger inside the box. And we are not sure whether people who are buying budget phones will appreciate this practice or not. Anyway, the Narzo 50A Prime has a decent display. It's still an LCD panel, but Realme has come up with a sharper, Full HD resolution.

6. Benco S1 Pro

The new Benco S1 Pro also features in our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal. And it's the only entry on our list with 8GB of RAM. Benko has been doing pretty well in the budget smartphone segment in Nepal and the S1 Pro looks to be another solid contribution. And the biggest talking point of this phone is definitely its design.

While practically every other budget phone in this range opts for a plastic build material, the Benco S1 Pro brings an anti-glare glass at the back for a more premium in-hand feel. And it has also been treated with an oleophobic coating to keep fingerprint smudges to a minimum. Furthermore, the phone also sports a modern looking flat frame design and is available in some nice color options.

(Near) Stock Android Experience

The performance side of things here is also pretty solid. It is powered by the Unisoc T616 chip (which is the same as MediaTek's Helio G88) along with 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. It also supports virtual RAM expansion but it is practically useless. What is impressive though is that the Benco S1 Pro has a near-stock Android experience, and it boots up on the latest Android 13.

In terms of display, you're looking at a big 6.8-inch IPS panel with FHD resolution and the regular 60Hz refresh rate. And for a budget phone, the bezels are pretty slim too. The Benco comes here with a triple camera setup at the back, which is led by a 64MP main sensor. The S1 Pro packs a massive 5000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. And you won't need to buy a charger separately as it comes bundled inside the box.

5. Realme Narzo N55

At number 5 on our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal is the newly launched Realme Narzo N55. Although it is just a rebranded Realme C55, it is also available in a more affordable 4/64GB configuration, thus securing a spot on our list.

And like the Benco S1 Pro above, the Narzo N55 emphasizes its design above everything else. Available in "Prime Black" or "Prime Blue" finish, realme has given a dual-tone finish at the back, which looks quite cool. Despite having a massive 5000mAh battery, it is just 7.89mm thick. There is also a fingerprint reader on the right side of the phone, while the Narzo N55 also sports an iPhone-like flat-edge finish.

90Hz display

Leaving aside the design, its display is also not that bad. The Realme Narzo N55 doesn't have an AMOLED panel or anything, but its IPS screen looks great for the price. With good colors and viewing angles. This FHD screen has a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, so that's cool too. Powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chip, the Narzo N55 can handle daily routine tasks very well. It runs on the latest Android 13-based Realme UI 4.0 out-of-the-box.

But the phone comes with a lot of bloatware apps by default—most of which you can disable or uninstall. In terms of cameras, the 64MP main sensor of the Narzo N55 can take decent pictures in daylight. This is followed by a 2MP depth sensor, while the phone has an 8MP selfie camera on the front, which is hidden inside the hole-punch cutout.

4. Samsung Galaxy A14

Moving on, Samsung's new Galaxy A14 4G has grabbed the fourth spot on our list of best phones under NPR 20000 in Nepal. Like most Samsung launches so far in 2023, this one too shares a fairly similar design language with the company's premium Galaxy "S" series of smartphones. Available in four attractive color options (Deep Red, Silver, Green and Black), Galaxy A14 is for those who value premium looks above everything else.

Apart from this, Samsung has used MediaTek's Helio G80 chipset here. Based on a 12nm node, this processor is capable enough for basic everyday use but it certainly isn't the most powerful phone you'll find in this price bracket. At least the software side of things is pretty solid here. It boots on the latest Android 13 with Samsung's One UI 5 on top.

No promised software updates

But unlike the Galaxy A14 5G, Samsung hasn't committed to any number of Android or security updates for this one. Anyway, the battery backup of Galaxy A14 is equally impressive. Equipped with a massive 5000mAh battery driving a standard 60Hz FHD display, this phone can easily last for a few days under normal usage.

As far as the cameras are concerned, the Galaxy A14 packs three cameras at the back. Which includes 50MP primary, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro unit. However, it is quite a big and heavy phone, with a thickness of 9.1mm and a weight of around 201 grams. For security, you will find a side-mounted fingerprint scanner here.

Bronze medal in our list of best phones under 20000 in Nepal is the Redmi 10 Prime 2022. Although it has "2022" in its name, the phone is basically the same as the 2021 Redmi 10 Prime.

What makes matters more confusing is that the Redmi 10 (2022) is largely the same phone as this one – except for the battery size. But despite launching in 2022, the Redmi 10 Prime (2022) still boots with Android 11-based MIUI 12.5. Handling the performance side of things is MediaTek's Helio G88 chip, paired with 4/6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage.

Superb performance

For a phone in this price range, the G88 is one of the best performers out there, even though its 12nm process means it's not quite as energy efficient. Then, the phone houses a massive 6000mAh battery which can easily last for a couple of days. It supports 18W fast charging and a compatible power brick is provided inside the box.

Moving on, the Redmi 10 Prime (2022) brings a quad-camera setup at the back that consists of 50MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, and 2MP sensors for macro and portrait shots. Up front, you're looking at a big 6.5″ 90Hz IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Its hole-punch cutout houses the 8MP selfie camera.

While most of the other devices on our list have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage in their base variants, the Redmi 12's starting configuration brings 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. While its 8/256GB variant is also just NPR 1000 more than our budget NPR 20000. With this, Xiaomi has tried to make everyday usage smooth on this smartphone, which is complemented by MediaTek's Helio G88 chip.

And although Xiaomi hasn't detailed an update cycle for this person, the Redmi 12 runs on the latest Android 13-based MIUI 14 by default.
